How to Clean Marble, Onyx, Limestone and Travertine
You need to be more careful with marble, onyx, limestone and travertine than with granite. Caring for them can be easy, but you have to make sure you use the right cleaner. What ever is safe for the environment should be safe for your natural stone.
We recommend you use Mira Clean #1 by Miracle Sealants. That is the only cleaner we recommend except for these surfaces. If you try a difference cleaner use good judgment and do a small test area first!
We recommend you seal your stone every six to ten months using Porous Plus sealer made by Miracle Sealants. The Porous Plus has two sealers in one: 511 Impregnator and 511 Pre treat. It is easy to apply just follow the directions on the container. We apply it with a soft damp cloth and allow it to absorb for a few minutes. Then use a dry clean cloth to buff off any extra sealer. The FDA says 30 minutes to dry and 72 hours before you can put food directly on the surface. If you see a milky haze on the stone after sealing then it dried so just apply more sealer to re activate the sealer and buff off right away.
You can also use 511 Impregnator by Miracle Sealants to seal your stone, but for these more porous stones we would recommend the Porous Plus.
One big thing to remember: anything acidic will etch the polish off marble, limestone and travertine. When you clean the mirror with Windex make sure you spray into the rag and then wipe the mirror. If you spray directly onto the mirror it may mist onto the marble surface and etch the polish off.
You can find Miracle Sealants products on-line or at Home Depot.
